File Submission Procedures for Presentations

When the time comes to submit your creative presentation there will be several things to consider.

First, when we publish your presentation on the conference blog it will follow this outline:
  • Your Name
  • Your Location
  • Your Blog/Website (if applicable)
  • Presentation title
  • Presentation description
  • Short presenter bio
  • Link to presenter bio
  • Link(s) to the actual presentation
  • Links related to your presentation

Please note your covener will be copying information from your respective strand Blog Post wiki page, so be sure that information is accurate and complete. Also note we do not want your presentation to be published on an external/public website before the day it is scheduled "to go live" on the K-12 Online Conference blog. Part of the excitement of the conference is the release/publication of four presentations per day during the regular days of the conference.

Process for Submission
The College of William and Mary has graciously agreed to provide server space for housing of all of the presentations associated with the K12Online08 Conference to ensure longevity of the archives, therefore, we will need a final copy of your presentation for uploading. Remember your total presentation length should not exceed 20 minutes in length. When you export your final presentation from your screencasting/video editing software program (if you are using video) please select an export option which compresses your video to 320 x 240 if possible. This will reduce the file size of your final video and expedite/streamline file transfer and publishing of your file to the K12Online file site at William and Mary. Your video can be submitted in either WMV or MOV format. If submitting an audio-only presentation, please submit as a MP3 (32 kbps if possible.)

A variety of different websites are available which facilitate the transfer of large files. We recommend you use one of the following sites to transfer your presentation to your strand convener:

These are both free transfer services that have a one-step registration. Simply register and then send the files(s) your strand convener. After you transfer your files, please follow-up with an email to your convener letting him/her know what you have transferred and include any URLs or additional information you think she should have about your presentation.

Your convener will then upload the files with appropriate ID3 tags (from info on your respective Presentation Blog Posts page) as hidden files to the k12online blip.tv pro account. Blip will transcode the file to iPod video and mp3 formats. Sheryl will download the files and upload them to the William and Mary server. Your convener will be in communication with each of you as the time draws near and make sure that you are comfortable with how the files will be transferred.

How Will They Go Live?
We will be creating a post that the information above (name, bio, abstract, and any additional links/explanations) as well as linking to your presentations files on the conference blog. On Oct. 20 at 12:00am GMT the keynotes will be posted as well as our first two presenters for Week 1. On Oct. 27 at 12:00am GMT the keynotes will be posted as well as our first two presenters for Week 2. Each weekday of those two weeks will see four new presentations published each day.
