Barbara Bray writes a regular column on professional development for OnCUE, coordinates the professional development quick tips (PDQs) for, and is President/owner of My eCoach. Barbara participated in the Northern California Google Teacher Academy, provided Tips and Tricks at CUE for years, is a guest speaker at Universities, and speaks at many national and international conferences with a focus on adult learners and coaching. Barbara believes in relevant professional development that helps each teacher or administrator meet their learning goals so they can take ownership of their own learning. There are so many tools and strategies available that teachers are confused. A new teacher needs mentoring on teaching strategies. A veteran teacher may need help in integrating technology. A new principal needs support in leadership skills. Barbara found a way to integrate coaching online with whatever you use to support meeting your goals and coaching others to meet theirs. Effective coaching happens with the people on-site that you trust. Take that online and you need appropriate tools that help you support teachers and keep their trust, allow privacy, and ongoing collaboration without worrying about what you say and do.

Barbara developed an online place for educators to share confidential information, collaborate easily, collect all of their resources including Web 2.0 tools, publish to the Internet, and get the support of their coach. A few projects:

Pinellas County Schools used My eCoach for their EETT grant 2006-07 and the new grant 2008-09. Many of the teachers involved not only created websites to showcase the projects, they created a class website. Check out Donna Blanton's class site. Los Angeles USD Arts Education Branch is using My eCoach to develop each discipline's Arts Instructional Guide. A new discipline Media Arts has a grant for 8 demonstration sites with state of the art facilities. Angela Gottschall shares her blog about the project, DMAC. Some other programs in My eCoach include: Stanford University's Foreign Language Department, the New Teacher Center @ UCSC coaching new principal candidates, San Diego County Office of Education Leadership Services AB 430 training for principals, San Francisco State University ITEC classes, Appreciation Nation (tm) with Teresa Roebuck, and districts and charter schools around the country. Partnerships include the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC) [PD Marketplace] and VIPTone with EduTone and We the Teachers.
